Aims & Objectives

The overall aim of GINA is to contribute to reducing the level of alcohol-related harm for the people of Scotland.

Aims and Objectives
To raise awareness of the issues around gender groups and alcohol in Scotland.
To influence the development of services by developing a database on good practice/guidelines.
To promote equality of access to services.
To collect and disseminate information on gender and alcohol.
To facilitate communication between the network and the Scottish Government and local Alcohol Action Teams.
To facilitate the participation and consultation of GINA in Scottish alcohol policy development.
To develop an appropriate mechanism for involving service users and to encourage the participation of service users.
To ensure engagement and effective links with other gender networks, substance use and other health improvement networks.

 

  Facts and Figures
1 in 4 women drink more than the recommended daily amount.
Rates of alcoholic liver disease in women are rising.
Alcohol related deaths for women have doubled in the last 10 years.
More than 3 out of 4 girls aged 15 have been drunk at least once.
Pregnant women are advised to avoid drinking alcohol.
