Background
GINA came into existence through a growing recognition of the increase in alcohol consumption among women and the associated health and social problems.
The project, which is funded by the Scottish Government, was launched in summer 2003 and is now in its second phase. The network currently focuses on women and alcohol issues, but it is our intention to acknowledge the many gender-sensitive issues which people encounter when dealing with alcohol problems and broaden the network in the future.
GINA has a stakeholder group which oversees the work undertaken by the Project Officer. This group is chaired by Professor Moira Plant of the Alcohol and Health Research Trust, University of West England.
