Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders - a guide for healthcare professionals

This British Medical Association report aims to raise awareness of FASD by examining the incidence, cause and outcomes of the range of disorders associated with alcohol consumption during pregnancy. It further outlines the responsibilities of healthcare professionals and the wider medical community in managing and reducing the incidence of these disorders.

The Survivor's Handbook provides practical support and information for women experiencing domestic violence, with simple guidance on every aspect of seeking support.

Women’s Aid Principles of Good Practice for working with women who use substances

This guidance aims to increase safe choices for women and children experiencing domestic violence where substance misuse is also an issue, raise awareness and standards in refuge organisations, outreach and other services, and encourage partnership working between the domestic violence and the substance misuse sectors.

The information in this toolkit aims to provide practitioners and service managers within the domestic violence and substance misuse sectors with the basic knowledge and skills they require to respond to service users safely and appropriately.

Families

Alcohol and the family: a position paper from Alcohol Concern
This is paper looks at the impact of parental alcohol misuse on children and families and what can be done to support them. Although children can be particularly affected by parental alcohol misuse, problem drinking affects all family members and recommendations are thus made to support the whole family.

Rory learning resource

Alcohol Focus Scotland has developed a learning resource that tackles the issue of harm caused to children because of parental alcohol problems. The resource is based on 'Rory', a fictional dog who can't understand why his owner is neglecting him, until it's explained to him that it's because his owner drinks too much.

 

General Alcohol               

Minimum pricing- what you need to know!

Alcohol Focus Scotland has worked with SHAAP and BMA Scotland to produce a paper called Minimum pricing: what you need to know. This is being widely distributed to people across the alcohol field as well as to politicians and other key stakeholders. Although there is widespread support for minimum pricing, a lot of work still needs to be done to persuade retail and trade bodies, as well as many politicians, that this is a policy measure which needs to be implemented to tackle Scotland’s harmful drinking culture.

 

Myth busting

Alcohol Focus Scotland has sent out a Myth Busting Paper on Minimum Pricing to MEPs. This paper answers commonly asked questions regarding minimum pricing.
